BEST FIRE PISTON FOR THE PRICE!!
Absolutely the BEST Fire Piston for the price!! I purchased the Granite Gray fire piston first and loved it so much that I purchased the Ember Orange one shortly after that. I couldn't believe how smooth the functionality of the fire pistons were. I absolutely love these things!!! Thank you for creating such a great product!!

OUTSTANDING PRODUCT !
Initially had trouble getting an ember to light till I bought some Stone Tinder from on line and I'm able to get an ember almost every time now .. its very important not to get oil from your fingers on the tinder your trying to light in the
Numyth Vulcan Fire Piston ..

Quality is outstanding. the only change I would make would be to make anther chamber to but some of the grease in so it would be completely self contained! Will always have a means of making fire with this Fire Piston.

I'm gonna love this thing!
I first saw the Vulcan Fire Piston in a review by W. Myers from Mantis Outdoors who did the video on PM-101's YouTube channel. I had prior knowledge of the apparatus and had been looking at getting one of them offered by many different company's on the web, but after watching that video I decided on this one. I just received it today, so haven't even tried it yet, but know that I will get years of use from it. The package arrived a day earlier than they said it would and that is awesome. Especially since I ordered it with a few more items (to get the FREE SHIPPING)! Thanks GG, I'll be back for more stuff someday soon.

Great Fire Starter
I purchased 1 & even with a thread issue, it worked 1st time out of the box. I did send it back & also purchased a second one because my wife had to have 1 as well! Second one came & it was perfect put of the package as well. Going Gear has, without a doubt, the very best customer service people I have dealt with in the past 10 years since I retired. I just wish I had more room in my house & camp to put stuff, but I've already pushed my luck with my wife these past couple years. Thank you everyone at Going Gear, some day I am going to be in your area to visit the store front itself!!!

Amazing Way to Start a Fire
Read NewSonOfLiberty's review - it's spot on and lots of good advice there I'm not going to repeat.

I've had limited success so far, but after watching all the videos on YouTube and reading the reviews here, I know it's not the Vulcan's fault. This method takes some practice, and quality of char cloth will have a direct impact on success.

I'm not at the point that I would want to rely on any fire piston as my sole means of starting an emergency fire, but it does work, and it's a lot of fun to mess around with.

There are tons of fire pistons on the market, even directions on how to make your own, but this is by far the highest quality piston available.

Not all char cloth is created equal
High marks for a quality, compact fire piston. The price is a fair price for this high quality product. This is the first fire piston I've purchased and tried. Since I've mastered flint & steel, ferro rods, glass lens and the trusty Bic lighter, I decided to add this method of igniting a char cloth ember to my list of fire making capabilities. My first attempts at getting the glowing ember were a series of dismal failures. I was using old blue jean material & after digging through my char cloth supply, I decided to try a piece of charred cotton make-pad and had instant success! I discovered that using char cloth from cotton uncontaminated with years of laundry cycles and dyes makes all the difference in the best char cloth to use in getting an ember. Using a piece of charred cotton lamp wick is the best overall char cloth for this fire piston because it easily loads into the tinder notch. I've added a paper clip to this kit to assist in packing the char cloth into, and removing the lit ember from the tinder notch. Overall I'm very pleased with the speed of delivery, ease of use, and the design of this fire piston.

Awesome!
I have had a few fire pistons before I got the Vulcan, one was plexiglass, one buffalo horn, and another which was made from aluminum. The Vulcan piston is by far the best fire piston I have had the pleasure of using. The quality of manufacture was great! I have been telling all of my friends about the Vulcan, and would recommend anyone who is interested in a fire piston to not waste their time and just get the Vulcan fire piston. Great product!

EDIT: Vulcan is lightyears ahead!
I recently wrote a review back in Mar. '13...loved my Vfp but no joy lighting it w/ char cloth. I contacted Pierre Coutou, inventor of Stone Tinder on E-bay, ordered from him in hopes of making the piston easier to light. The Vulcan Fp and Stone Tinder were absolutely made for each other. Now my Vfp lights up in 3 "strokes" or less! This Fp is built like the proverbial tank. My wife and I slammed the heck out of it trying to get char cloth to light...no adverse effects at all. Very compact, lightweight, Imho no better can be obtained at this price point. Now all I have to find is more O-rings...(26 June '13) MB
