Quality Piece of Kit Review by TrailsideBill

I pride myself on buying the best gear possible and I will be using this for EDC. I do not want to risk my life on substandard equipment. When I saw this lighter and read the reviews, I knew this was a quality piece of kit. When I receive it I was not disappointed. It's fit and finish are superb. This lighter properly cared for will last for generations. I like the KISS principle and this is the embodiment of that, just the absolute minimum, but quality parts to do the job.

It is sturdy and reliable. I have showed to to all my friends and they are planning on getting one for themselves.

You will not be sorry if you get this little gem. It is small, well built and reliable. What more could you ask for.

A Little Gem Review by Newsonsofliberty

I purchased the Numyth Tohil lighter in June of 2013 as a replacement for the peanut lighter I had previously purchased from a company that is fairly well-known among the prepper/survivalist community and which will remain unnamed but goes by the initials CC. The CC stainless steel lighter never worked properly, despite multiple adjustments and cleanings and took, on average 17-20, attempts to light. That item is now essentially a curious little paper weight on my desk. But the concept of a small canister-type metal lighter was still a very desirable item that I wanted for my emergency/survival pack. Having become familiar with Going Gear's product line, and based upon owner Marshall's superb review, I purchased the Tohil lighter and it has not disappointed. This lighter is a little gem, very high quality and extremely reliable. I've had it now for 6 months and it has performed flawlessly. It ignites every time, usually with just one strike. And because it is a canister and has an O-ring, the fuel does not evaporate, unless imperceptibly slowly, and has functioned for months without needing a refill. I have also used this as an every day carry item and it is rugged as heck. The surface color coat did scratch somewhat but that's to be expected with pocket carry. Being a bit of a perfectionist, I made a small leather sheath for the Tohil that now protects it from pocket wear. In my opinion this item is well worth the price for something that, with proper care, can probably last for generations. For those, like me, who demand high quality in everything I own, the Numyth/Going Gear Tohil lighter is an exceptionally well-made piece of gear that will not disappoint you. Good with a few possible issues Review by Zen

I have purchased three of these in one go. Each one is on a key chain. After quite some use
I would say that the general quality is quite good. The coating has rather easily been scratched off
By the keys but that's to be expected. My main gripe is that one of the lighters had the insert
come loose after about a week on my wife's keys. The metal sliding insert now does not seat firmly but simply
Falls out like the normal peanut ones do. This was one of the main advantages for me of the tohil
over their cheaper counterparts but something I would have thought would last and not faulter so quickly.

Only other comment is the size. They could definitely do with a smaller size as well. I like the chunky one but
A smaller one would be better for EDC. Overall a good product. (Posted on 9/25/13)
Very high quality Review by Atheous

This lighter is what the "peanut lighters" should have been. Every iteration of them I've seen from Chinese to U.S. manufactured, all have the O-ring exposed. When the top is screwed down, the O-ring is forced out of it's channel, and sustains damage from carry.

The Numyth screws closed covering the O-ring and preventing damage. The threads are very smooth, the body has excellent grip and it's increased size over "peanut lighters" offer more light or fire time, yet the size is quite reasonable.

Overall, from my experience, this is the King of these type of lighters, hands down.

    Highly recommended. (Posted on 8/26/13)

I saw your review of this lighter on YouTube. I kayak and the premium match cases and cheap lighters didn't do the job. I got this lighter today and this is perfect! I have a Numyth fire piston and know the Numyth quality and this lighter is great! I love my Zippos but this lighter is for survival, bush crafting, and when the SHTF! I'm ordering more for gifts. Everything a lighter should be! Review by Rob

This lighter is everything a peanut light should be but normally isn't! It's a little bigger than most but that's not a bad thing- the fluid reservoir is large enough that it should run awhile. Build quality is amazing! The square cut threads are very precise and the machining it first rate. The thing feels expensive! It reminds me of my Exotac MatchCap XL but if anything it's even more overbuilt. The O-ring is very nice and the cap screws on very, very smoothly. It also includes a few very well thought out touches like flat spots to get a good grip and a flat bottom that lets it stand up for use as candle (note that they specifically advise you not do this to avoid overheating it, but the option is there).

I can't really ding it on anything save possibly price. To be honest it's probably well worth the full price for what it is but it's still a bit for a lighter. I did pick up two while they had the 35% off deal going (and a Numyth battery capsule, too). Now I wish I'd have bought even more!

Two thumbs way up! Great lighter. (Posted on 11/30/12)
Much better than a Peanut Review by Crizyal

I have several peanut lighters and I love the form factor. My one complaint was always that the quality had something to be desired. The sparkler would seize up or the o-rings wouldn't make good contact and seal the fuel in. When I saw this product I was very excited. I know that the seller and possibly the designer is a fellow CPFer, which translates into doing quite a bit of research. I knew this product would be far better than what I had seen on other sites. After I received the lighter it did not disappoint. I immediately compared it to one of my peanut lighters. I found that the issues that I had with the peanut were resolved with this little gem.. One caveat being that it is larger than the other. This is not an issue for me, though it should be known. (Posted on 10/27/12)
