2 year workhorse
The Nitecore P12 is a great light that has been my go-to for the last couple of years.
I regularly use it for work and it lights up the dark spaces well on the second or third brightness levels. The moonlight mode is great for reading and not distracting sleeping folks when I'm poking around in a dark room and I use turbo mode equally for utility and having fun with folks. I'm a fan of the dual switch setup. It does have it's fair share of battle damage but has held up well. It fills the hand well without being bulky. I carry it in my off-hand pocket and it's rarely intrusive.
A few things I wish were improved: The pocket clip wasn't quite deep or retentive enough for me and I replaced it with a deeper-sitting and tighter one. The lanyard was useful but it wore away long ago. Also, the somewhat bezeled tailcap is not ideal for tailstanding (have to play that balancing game). There are times when I wish that the beam pattern was a bit tighter. Also, with the passage of time, I know that there are brighter lights in smaller packages out there. I'm not really at collector status for flashlights.
I've really enjoyed my time with this light. It's always had enough brightness in a form factor that I can manage with anything except the lightest gym shorts. In this wide world of flashlights, I would recommend the Nitecore P12.

Great edc light. Has strobe memory from off.
Love this light. I carry it almost every day. I love the memory function, turn off the light and next time you turn it on it goes to the function it was last on including strobe. I leave it on strobe for we'd carry. Tail switch has momentary function. I thought I would like the p10 strobe ready better so I bought it as well I actually prefer the p 12.

Updated Review for Updated 2015 P12!!
Awesome! Every complaint I had about the old P12 has been addressed completely! The anodizing is better, the mode spacing is better, the tail switch has better feel, the machining is better, the laser engravings sharper and clearer and its brighter overall to boot!

The only drawbacks are that the tactical ring is still made of cheesy plastic and the light totally devours even the stoutest batteries. Aside from that Nitecore has done such a good job with this updated P12 that my beloved PD35 now just sits on a shelf collecting dust!

I got this light when it first came out and GG was having a sale on it for less than $50!! Are you kidding me?! The voltage reader function of the LED light under the mode switch is actually accurate. All three blinky modes are excellent and easily accessible. I never thought Id say this but this Nitecore P12 is eating the much more expensive Fenix PD35 for lunch! If youre one of the many thousands of people that are shopping for lights of this category you may now get off the fence because the 2015 Nitecore P12 is the new king of the category!

not reliable
i previously owned a 4sevens quark pro qp2l-x. it had 780 lumens on burst mode.
I ended up loosing it and wanting to but a light the same size with more power.
I chose this light.
it was larger then the four sevens and a little too large for me for edc.
and most importantly it only lasted one day. I went to use it at work the day after I got the light and it would not turn on. being a firemen I need a light I know I can trust.
this light was never dropped and misused, and magically died. will never buy a nitcore again

Fantastic light for the money
I was expecting to pay north of $200 for a quality compact EDC flashlight but the P12 had everything on my wishlist for way less $$$.

- Stands on tailcap
- On/off button protected by tailcap
- Does not roll when on its side
- Modes are stupid easy to understand/operate
- Throw and spill are excellent for my needs
- Uses 2 CR123s or one 18650
- Feedback from function/mode button
- Included accessories
- Real glass used for lens

- I would have liked the included clip to have been a full circle (meaning you would have to take the tailcap off in order to install it). The way it is built, you can just pry it off.

Very great light.
I purchased one of these last week. I have already used it for an outing at the cabin. Very bright and very durable. Yes I dropped it. Ha. This is a well built and very handy light that will meet your expectations from Nitecore.

Perfect Light for EDC (You won't find a better one for this price)
Got this baby on sale for $48 when GG ran a sale.
Most Notable Thing I Like: Perfect light for EDC. It has a GREAT balance between flood and throw. The balance between the 2 makes wonderful for my EDC Need. VERY bright. All my friends were thoroughly impressed. NO issues with brightness at all.

Design. Fits nicely in my pocket with the pocket clip. You wont find a light this size with this much power.

Only 1 for me.. but it may be the way it was MEANT to be designed. I dropped this on concrete and it took a very small chip out of my tail guard. First thing I thought was wow, I thought this would be stronger but then I realized they probably made it this way to ABSORB the fall. But hey, if you use something everyday it will incur wear whatever it is right? Don't get me wrong though, the flashlight is very sturdy and well built.

Final Thoughts:
I love this light, so does my friend who bought one with me. He has tons of lights including the Klaurus Xt11, Olight Stryker and a few more and this is his favorite light for EDC. It offers tons of brightness for being such a small light. This was also a big selling point since I carry knives and a few other tactical items on me when I leave the house. Anyone looking for a sturdy bright reasonably sized EDC light will not be dissapointed.

I recently purchased the P12 because of the high lumen output for the $$$ it's a great deal compared to competitors that have price point double the amount for same lumens. So far it's been a great light I keep in my car. Combined with Olight 18650 battery 3400MAH. This is my 8th high powered tactical light and I recommend it to anybody looking for high output in that price point

Not Up to Snuff Nitecore
This lights main competition is the Fenix PD35. Nitecore rushed out the P12 when they noticed Fenix cant build the PD35 fast enough and that its winning over brand loyalists with first time high end light buyers. They failed miserably. Compared to the PD35 the P12 aluminum tube feels thinner and lighter, the anodizing is half rate and cheap and the electronics are obviously cut rate. Nitecore inflates their output numbers a lot and the P12 is no different. I have the P12 as well as both older 820 lumen PD35 and the new 960 lumen 2014 edition. Both Fenix have far better electronics and top rate emitters and both blow the P12 away in output.
The P12 puts out an annoying purplish tinted beam and the light itself gets hot fast. There is better out there for the money.
